Narrative: John E. Van Allen is an attorney in Pennsylvania where his practice of law primarily focuses on state and local sales, use, property and corporate tax litigation on behalf of taxpayers. He has managed projects involving nearly 12,000 property tax appeals throughout 56 counties. In fact, in one month, he filed nearly 9,000 of those appeals. He also represents businesses in reviewing sales and use tax payments, identifying over-payments and pursuing refunds, particularly for manufacturers.  He is one of the few Pennsylvania attorneys who conduct sales tax due diligence reviews.  He has handled such refund reviews for a number of businesses including two of the four largest companies headquartered in Central Pennsylvania. Through the appeals he has handled, taxpayers have directly saved or been refunded over $100,000,000.00 in state and local taxes.

Mr. Van Allen is a frequent speaker throughout Pennsylvania regarding tax issues.  He has also been the featured Pennsylvania tax speaker at two national tax conferences in Monterey, CA and Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Mr. Van Allen began his career by practicing law for an Am Law Global 50 law firm for over six years where he practiced law in Harrisburg, Philadelphia and, for one day, Paris, France.

Prior to law school, Mr. Van Allen was a second-string place-kicker in college who was able to sneak onto the field going five-for-five on extra points.

Mr. Van Allen is also a Trustee for a Harrisburg non-profit organization.
