JOSEPH N. GOTHIE

Narrative: Mr. Gothie has represented businesses, individuals and nonprofits throughout Pennsylvania. His practice has focused primarily on real estate and litigation. Mr. Gothie has litigated cases in 18 counties in Pennsylvania, primarily in central and eastern Pennsylvania. He has represented publicly traded and privately held companies in business and litigation matters in Pennsylvania.

Mr. Gothie's primary practice focus is on commercial and residential rental real estate. In addition to being an investor in commercial and multifamily residential real estate, Mr. Gothie has worked for landlords of all sizes in matters including lease drafting, evictions, collections, property tax issues, lead paint issues, and civil rights litigation (including practice before the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission). Mr. Gothie has extensive experience with issues related to  apartments and rental homes as well as manufactured housing communities (mobile home parks).

Mr. Gothie is also familiar with Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), starting his career as a Tax Consultant with Ernst & Young in Baltimore, Maryland. There, he provided tax analysis of transactions to large REITs during stock acquisitions, mergers, Section 1031 exchanges, and new property acquisitions. After being promoted to Senior Tax Consultant and leaving Ernst & Young, Mr. Gothie returned to the exclusive practice of law in York County, clerking first for the Hon. John S. Kennedy of the York County Court of Common Pleas, and then entering private practice. Mr. Gothie ultimately started his own firm in 2003, which later became Gothie Van Allen LLC in 2006.
